MISSION : IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING

The first images from the muscular trailer for opus 8 suggest that this is a future model for action films, combining spectacular staging and a solid script.

Agent Ethan Hunt will be back soon, on May 23, 2025. In the meantime, here’s the ultra-rhythmic trailer for an exceptional installment in the saga that Tom Cruise has carried off to perfection since 1996 !

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING

A mysterious title that could just as well signify the final trial of Ethan Hunt’s martyrdom, and which still shows us as much about the way of the cross (the form of the key he’s been chasing since opus 7) as about a doomsday threat hanging over the world with an Entity that might want to set off the world’s nuclear missiles. Today’s wars and conflicts, and the fragility of an entirely digital world, are extremely much in evidence in both installments of the saga. The question is: Is this the last film for Ethan Hunt?
When it was announced that films 7 and 8 would be shot back-to-back, Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie were hinting at an end to the Mission: Impossible franchise. And today’s trailer goes in that direction when we hear: “Our lives are the sum of our choices”.

However, the images can take us in the wrong direction, and Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise do their utmost to maintain the suspense. To date, we don’t know the plot of the film (even if, as the second part of the story goes, everything will revolve around the race to the Entity), so it’s not today that we’ll be told its ending. Rendezvous on May 21, 2025, then, with one option being to have an ending as a sort of conclusion while leaving open the possibility of a sequel, with a living Ethan Hunt. And frankly, it would be hard not to imagine a sequel, given the franchise’s ability to renew itself while condensing the best elements of the old films. Increasingly impressive action scenes that capture the viewer’s attention. The fact that Tom Cruise really does all his stunts makes them captivating and powerful, just like in “Top Gun Maverick” ! In each and every one of his films, Tom Cruise establishes a truth in fiction, making us believe in him every time, and endearing his character to us. The whole is reinforced by Christopher McQuarrie’s intelligent and spectacular sequences. So there’s no stopping the mission!
