La semaine du son (Sound Week) returns to the Cannes Film Festival from May 13 to 24 for its 7th edition of the Best Sound Creation Award. Director Gérard Krawczyk will chair the jury, which includes singer-songwriter Martin Luminet, journalist and author Emmanuelle Gaume , and prize founders Janine Langlois-Glandier and Christian Hugonnet. The award recognizes a director from the prestigious Un Certain Regard selection for the sound excellence of their film.

As part of the official selection “Un Certain Regard” Cannes Film Festival 2025, director Gérard KRAWCZYK will chair the jury for this 7th edition of the Best Sound Creation Award, succeeding Bob Swaim, Régis Wargnier, Robin Renucci, Philippe Le Guay, Christophe Barratier and Ibrahim Maalouf. A debate on sound in cinema, ” The Challenges of Sound Creation in Cinema, ” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, at the CST stand, in the presence of our jury and mixers. Costa Gavras and Julie Gayet will also be present.
On May 15, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. , the awards ceremony for the international school competition “ When Sound Creates the Image ” organized by Semaine du Son and UNESCO will take place at the Théâtre Alexandre III in Cannes .
As part of the official selection “Un Certain Regard” Cannes Film Festival 2025
Created in 2017 as part of the prestigious “Un Certain Regard” selection, the Best Sound Creation Award rewards a director each year for the sound excellence of their film, “because it enhances the viewer’s artistic, semantic and narrative perception.”
Director Gérard Krawczyk will chair the jury, which includes singer-songwriter Martin Luminet, journalist and author Emmanuelle Gaume , and prize founders Janine Langlois-Glandier and Christian Hugonnet.
He will be joined by author and audiovisual producer Emmanuelle GAUME, singer-songwriter Martin LUMINET, Janine LANGLOIS-GLANDIER, and Christian HUGONNET, founders of the prize. The jury will reward sound creation in its broadest dimension, both musical and artistic, but also related to sound design (sound ambiance, special effects, voice quality, spatialization, sound level, image and sound relationship).

ABOUT THE AWARD
Initiated by Janine LANGLOIS-GLANDIER, Costa GAVRAS and Christian HUGONNET, in agreement with Thierry FRÉMAUX, the prize was launched in 2017, during the 70th Cannes Film Festival. At the heart of one of the most prestigious international film festivals, it is part of an initiative to promote the place of sound led by the NGO La Semaine du Son as an extension of its awareness-raising campaign-event organized each January: UNESCO’s La Semaine du Son.

ABOUT « LA SEMAINE DU SON »
“SOUND WEEK”
The NGO La Semaine du Son, founded in 1998 by its president Christian HUGONNET, an acoustician and expert at the Paris Court of Appeal, aims to make every human being aware that sound is a fundamental element of personal balance in their relationship with others and the world.
It has been supported by UNESCO since 2017 following Resolution 39C/49, from its Charter, which sets out good practices to be implemented to achieve objectives in five cross-cutting areas: hearing health, image and sound relationships, musical expression and pedagogy, sound environment, and recording and reproduction techniques. It constitutes a national and international network of professionals from all sectors of sound. Each year, it implements actions to explore the facets of sound in all their diversity. Figures from the artistic, medical, political, academic, and media worlds mobilize to support its events.

JURY OF THE 7TH EDITION OF THE BEST SOUND CREATION AWARD

PRESIDENT OF THE JURY: Gérard Krawczyk, director and screenwriter
A graduate of Paris-Dauphine University and IDHEC (now La Fémis), Gérard Krawczyk made his debut with three César-nominated short films, including The Subtle Concept, which won the Grand Prix at Chamrousse. He followed this with Je hais les acteurs and L’Été en pente douce, then began a notable collaboration with Luc Besson, directing several popular hits such as Taxi 2, Taxi 3, Taxi 4, Wasabi, and Fanfan la Tulipe, which opened the Cannes Film Festival out of competition in 2003. He is also the author of more intimate films (La Vie est à nous!, L’Auberge rouge) and documentaries, including Marseille! for France Télévisions. His films have garnered nearly 25 million admissions in France between 2000 and 2010. Alongside directing, he has published a novel, Foudroyé(s), and exhibited his photography. In 2024, he is developing two new projects: the mini-series Z like Zelinsky and the film We Are All Pandas.
Emmanuelle Gaume has been an author, director, presenter and audiovisual producer since 1993.
Her eclectic career reflects a constantly awakening curiosity. Her love of classical music, cinema, and literature, not to mention her training at the Beaux-Arts, combined with her rigor as a former dancer and horsewoman, have led her on very varied audiovisual paths, from France Musique to ARTE, including Exclusif on TF1, or Nulle part ailleurs on Canal+. Co-founder and director of the Intrada music label with composer Eric Tanguy for more than 10 years, she made her first documentary film in February 2016 on Alice Guy, the first female filmmaker in history, starring Alexandra Lamy in the role of Alice Guy. In September 2024, she co-founded and opened La Maison des Récits (www.lamaisondesrécits.com), an audiovisual writing residency. Also in 2024, she founded the EICMI (International School of Music Composition for Image), which is scheduled to open in September 2025. (https://www.eicmi.fr/) Her company 68productions is currently in co-production with France Télévisions and Wild Bunch for a 6-episode television series based on her book on Alice Guy, the first female filmmaker (Editions PLON).
Martin Luminet, singer-songwriter
Born in 1989 in Rodez, Martin Luminet trained in music, performance, and directing at the Conservatoire de Lyon, the ENM de Villeurbanne, the Acting Studio, and the Studio des Variétés. He launched his musical project in 2017, combining song and film, after leading writing workshops in France and Canada. His first EP Monstre (2021) was followed in 2023 by the album Deuils, which racked up more than 3.5 million streams and was accompanied by a 60-date tour, including a sold-out Café de la Danse. Signed to Barclay/Universal in early 2024, he won the FAIR the same year. The reissue of his album Après Deuils was released in June 2024, and a date is scheduled at the Olympia on April 7, 2026.
Janine Langlois-Glandier, president of the Mobile Media forum
A key figure in French audiovisual, Janine Langlois-Glandier has headed major institutions such as SFP, France 3, La Sept (ARTE) and INA, where she oversaw the digitization of national archives. She also worked within the Pathé group, chaired Pathé Télévision and sat on the Higher Audiovisual Council from 1997 to 2002. Committed to innovation and accessibility, she has chaired the Mobile Media Forum since 2004, notably involved in consultations around 5G and content accessibility. A director of TF1 until 2019, an active member of the Semaine du Son and the Cannes Film Festival Jury for Best Sound Creation, she participated in the production of iconic films such as Life is a Long Quiet River, The Last Metro and Tess.
Christian Hugonnet, President and founder of La Semaine du Son, Initiator of the Best Sound Creation Award at the Cannes Film Festival
A graduate engineer from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Christian Hugonnet began at Radio France, then joined the INA as a trainer in musical sound recording and stereophony. After a year at Ircam, he contributed to the creation of the CNSMDP Audiovisual Center and the Higher Training in Sound Professions. Professor at the Ecole Louis-Lumière (1985–2000), president of the CST in 2000, he leads numerous seminars internationally. Author of several reference works on stereophony, he created the International Forum of Multichannel Sound in 1998, then in 2004 the event La Semaine du Son, which became UNESCO’s Semaine du Son in 2019. In 2017, he initiated the Best Sound Creation Award at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard selection. A legal expert, he has run a firm dedicated to the acoustics of rooms and recording studios since 1993.
