A NEW CINEMA ROOM AT THE JEU DE PAUME from November 13, 2024
In the year of its twentieth anniversary, the Jeu de Paume has chosen to put cinema back at the heart of its activities by inaugurating a new cinema from November 13, 2024, in support of independent creation. Following an “art house” program, the new cinema will offer no fewer than 400 screenings throughout the year, for all audiences: film buffs, schoolchildren, families…

To celebrate this event, the Jeu de Paume is offering five preview evenings in the presence of the directors from November 13 to 17 during its opening week, foreshadowing the cinephile events that will be offered throughout the year, notably through ciné-clubs.
- Art-house films, children’s films, previews, film clubs… from November 13, 2024.
- The opening of the Jeu de Paume cinema is made possible thanks to the support of the Fondation Louis Roederer.
Situated on level -2 of the Jeu de Paume, the 90-seat venue offers a real sense of proximity and conviviality between spectators and guests.
ABOUT :
A place of inspiration, experimentation and encounters, the Jeu de Paume is an art center that invites us to reflect on visual history in an era of exponential image multiplication. Every year, the Jeu de Paume programs temporary exhibitions showcasing the diversity and richness of photography, from its historical foundations to digital works, experimental cinema, video and contemporary creation. Over the past 20 years, it has presented major names such as Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, Robert Capa, Dorothéa Lange, Sally Mann, Vivian Maier, Martin Parr, Cindy Sherman, and more recently Thomas Demand and Julia Margaret Cameron as well as more emerging figures.
Offering a rich program of meetings, lectures, courses and study days, the Jeu de Paume is also a platform for exchange and dialogue between the public and the artists, photographers, filmmakers and writers invited throughout the year. Since 2007, it has also supported online creation through specially designed monographic and thematic projects. In 2010, a branch at the Château de Tours was inaugurated. In 2024, it puts cinema back at the heart of its programming with the inauguration of a cinema. It offers a wide range of mediation activities for all kinds of audiences (children, families, young people, the socially excluded, schoolchildren, etc.), and makes a vast number of educational and scientific resources available online to professionals, students and enthusiasts alike.
It offers a wide range of mediation activities for all kinds of audiences (children, families, young people, the socially excluded, schoolchildren, etc.), and makes a vast number of educational and scientific resources available online to professionals, students and enthusiasts alike.
Committed to preserving the environment, it designs reusable, sustainable exhibition scenography and houses an auditorium, a reference bookshop and an organic, eco-responsible café with a terrace in the Tuileries gardens in fine weather. The history of the Jeu de Paume is inseparable from that of Paris. Originally a sports venue inaugurated by Napoleon III (1862), it was transformed into an exhibition gallery (1909) and then into an annex of the Musée du Luxembourg (1922), before becoming a storage area for works looted by the Nazis during the Second World War. Rose Valland, the museum’s curator during this period and a discreet heroine of the Resistance, played a decisive role in safeguarding and recovering this heritage. As a tribute to her, the terraces surrounding the Jeu de Paume now bear her name. After the war, and until 1986, it housed the Musée des Impressionnistes, before being completely refurbished by architect Antoine Stinco to become a contemporary art center, the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume, in 1991. Since 2004, the Jeu de Paume has been a private association under the French law of 1901.
